ZHANNAT ALSHANOVA'S 'END OF SEASON' CHOSEN BY CINÉFONDATION

Congratulations to Zhannat Alshanova! Her grad film, ‘End of Season’ has been selected by the prestigious Cinéfondation at Cannes Film Festival 2018. Cinéfondation is a part of the 71st Cannes Film Festival, had 2,426 submissions this year by film schools all over the world. Of these over 2,000 films Cinéfondation has chosen 17 this year (14 of which are live-action and 3 animated films). Fourteen countries on four continents will be represented, the festival takes place between 8 and 19 May. Twelve of the twenty-two directors selected for this programme are women. This is not London Film School’s first nomination; in 2016 LFS graduate Hamid Ahmadi’s ‘In The Hills’ won second prize at Cinéfondation, with the film subsequently screening at TIFF.

Zhannat is currently a London-based writer/director and producer with a background in management. She earned both a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and Masters in Marketing, before moving into film. Her first film related job was as a production assistant and translator on the first season of Netflix’s ‘Marco Polo’, before starting her Masters in Filmmaking at London film School in 2015.

Zhannat has prior experience producing both narrative and documentary films. One of her short films, ‘The White Orchid Hotel’ premiered at Camerimage Film Festival and in 2017 Zhannat produced two short films set in Vermont, USA and Bozcaada.
‘End of Season’ is Zhannat’s London Film School graduate film. The short focuses on Rosa, who arrives at her husband’s hotel and immediately feels alienated. A glimpse of connection awakens buried emotions and a long-gone passion for swimming. The film’s runtime is 23:45 and was shot in Zhannat’s home country of Kazakhstan with an actress filling the title role of the same name. The crew for ‘End of Season’ was filled with LFS graduates – those of which can be found listed below:

Cem Demirer – Cinematographer
