Fast Forward Programme: Production Design

Fast Forward (FF) is a flexible programme of core workshops and study spread over 10 months for progressive learning whilst working. Fast Forward is aimed at industry professionals who have worked in the business for 2+ years, who are looking to progress to the next level of their craft area, or sidestep into a new craft area. The programmes offer professionals the opportunity to upgrade skills and move forward immediately.
Structure
There are three main learning activities at the core of each programme:
1. Craft Workshops
Fast Forward Production Design consists of 3 craft specific workshops ranging from 4 to 10 days in duration. Further information on the individual workshops is available by clicking on the links below:
Drawing board to screen: production design and technical drawing. 5th - 14th January 2009
This is an intensive and advanced 10 day course designed to develop an individual creative design approach alongside technical drawing skills. For more details click here.
Three dimensional drawing for Film/TV with lens projection. 27th April - 1st May 2009
This 5 day workshop is aimed at those with some prior drafting experience needing to improve their skills and those wanting to progress to the next level in the Art Department of the film and TV industries. For more details click here.

This 4 day intensive and practical course will show participants how to break down a script in the main cost headings of the art department. For more details click here.
2. Career Development
Career advancement is core to the award. The Career Development module is spread over the 10 month duration to amount to one week of tuition in Careers advice and guidance. Students are assigned an industry mentor and work on an individual career prescription which they must progress and report on during the year, using a Work and Research journal which will be assessed. LFS staff will provide careers advice and deliver craft specific 'job clubs' with the assistance of the LFS Industry Liaison Manager. The School will also assist students in seeking work placements.
3. MA Filmmaking Collaboration
FF Production Design students work on two 2nd year MA Films or exercises and will therefore have the opportunity to work with students who are nearing graduation. These are often shot on 35mm. Participation is discussed with a tutor in the Department. Working in a key role on 35mm and HD films directed by 2nd year MA students on the best industry equipment, often using built sets, is an opportunity which is very hard to find in the industry. LFS students make 60 films per term over three terms, resulting in 180 films per year.
As part of the programme FF students will have the opportunity to attend aspects of the MA Filmmaking such as interactive masterclasses, Q and A evening events, film history classes and general lectures.
4. Results - Fast Forward Student Learning Outcomes:
- Flexible: Ability to work in the industry whilst up-skilling.
- Technical upgrade of skills.
- Career targets and goals established through mentoring and assignments from ongoing industry mentor.
- Letters of introduction service to qualifying students.
- New portfolio work acquired through participation on MA Filmmaking projects(where appropriate).
- Taster of MA Filmmaking and opportunity to apply for a MA Filmmaking Skillset bursary.
- Opportunity for UK practitioners to mix with international MA filmmakers, exchanging ideas and best practice.
- Further exposure to industry through attendance at up to 30 LFS interactive Masterclasses and Q and A events.
- Attendance at weekly film style series, film history classes, and general lectures.
- Graduation as an LFS associate with ongoing attachment and career mentoring.

Fee:£2400 (All Fast Forward courses are subsidised by Skillset and therefore these courses are not eligible for individual Skillset bursaries)
Admission
Application form must demonstrate 2 years' experience in the film industry and/or related field and provide a CV. A portfolio/showreel of work to support the application is required.
