MA Screenwriting

Screenwriting is Filmmaking

Applying our course philosophy, the MA Screenwriters at LFS engage in a series of exercise based classes that develop their understanding of the filmmaking process from script to screen. Sessions with professional Writers, Actors, Directors, Editors and Producers are complemented by practical classes including a Directing Workshop.

"Screenwriting is Filmmaking" examples

Working from the same six lines of dialogue the writers create their own backstories and are given two hours with the same actors to block and shoot the scene. They can sit in afterwards and discuss the scene with editors from the filmmaking course. The resulting scenes are screened in the cinema and discussed with peers and the workshop director.

The writers find that working with actors, deciding where to put the camera and contributing to the editing process- all deepen their understanding of what it means to write for the screen.
