Introduction

This intensive 2-week course aims to give students with basic drafting skills the opportunity to develop the core technical drawing skills necessary to become a productive member of an Art Department. It is also suitable for those keen to improve their knowledge of the techniques required for set construction, its methodology and practice.

Stage Beauty- Art Dir: Jan Spoczynski

The set of Stage Beauty - Art Director: Jan Spoczynski

The course will cover:

  • Use of basic equipment: measuring and surveying an existing space or location
  • The creation of a white card model from participants’ own notes/sketches (for spacial awareness)
  • The production of a complete set of working drawings from a sketch model, which would provide sufficient detail to construct a set.

At each stage the work will be illustrated by:

  • Examples of film drawings (on-going)
  • Extracts from television and film productions.
  • Examples of how drawings have been translated into key components of a set design.

Handouts will be provided to accompany various elements of the course, enabling participants to create their own reference/archive material, i.e. period styles of architecture and ornamentation.

Participants will be required to provide their own ‘kit’ of basic equipment (e.g. adjustable set square, scale rule, sketch book, clutch pencils). Otherwise all course materials will be provided.

Times: 10am - 5pm

Maximum participants: 8

Fee: £650
