Kate Leys Story Surgery

Date: (awaiting dates)

Duration: 1 day
 10am - 5pm
Capacity: Max. 10 participants
Fee: £200  10% Early Bird discount available for limited period.

If you’re working on a script or a story that would benefit from some feedback and discussion, this workshop is for you.

This 1-day surgery is a great follow up to the Story Is Character workshop. It’s a chance to examine your work in progress and receive clear, focused feedback from Kate Leys, a hugely experienced script editor, as well as discuss the project within the group.

Limited to 10 participants who will work as a group, this is an opportunity to ask any questions you have or to raise specific issues you’re facing with the project. Whose story is it? What genre territory are you in and is it useful to know? What’s working, and not working, and why? You’ll leave this surgery back in control, with a clear sense of your story and some practical strategies for moving forwards.

Participants need to submit in advance a 1-page summary of their script or story, plus a paragraph of further supporting notes. You may also submit a summary of up to three pages for Kate to read. Those with full drafts are also encouraged to select a critical scene involving your central characters. Read Kate's guidelines for this prep work.

Please note: This workshop is not a one-to-one meeting with a script editor. The stories will be discussed as a group, with a roughly equal allocation of time per participant.

"Kate has a marvellous capacity to be able to educate, encourage and assist the writer to recognise their own potential... She enables even the most flayed writer, exhausted by revision after revision, to approach a re-write reenergised without procrastination and avoidance." Farah Abushwesha, founder Rocliffe New Writing Forum
