Are you working on a script or a story for film, TV, web, or even a game, brand or event? Are you already thinking about engaging with an audience and creating ‘runways’ to raise awareness? Are you brainstorming ideas to allow the audience to really dive in and experience your storyworld?
This 1-day surgery is a great follow up to our weekend workshop, Crossplatform Storytelling, Development & Production. Led by Alison Norrington – a globally credited storyteller, strategist and transmedia architect – it’s your chance to identify barriers or conflicts that would need to be removed or rectified if you’re hoping to develop a crossplatform strategy around your story.
Modern storytellers understand the value in identifying with and engaging their audiences. Whether digital or analogue, crossplatform/transmedia extensions are always more functional and focused when they are ‘built in’ and not ‘bolted on’. Limited to eight participants, this is an opportunity to deep-dive your story and receive clear, focused feedback and critical questions from Alison, as well as discuss the project within the group.
You will have the opportunity for a general workshopping of your story in a collaborative environment to help define the core theme and message, as well as identifying initial franchise/story extension possibilities.
Participants need to submit in advance a 3-page overview of their story, to include:
- Short synopsis.
- Target audience.
- A short introduction to your main characters.
- Any crossplatform or transmedia ideas you’re already considering (if any).
- What would ‘success’ look like for your story?
Participants will leave the course with a much clearer vision for creating a specific crossmedia strategy for their story. They will leave with a focus on who their audience are, how genre affects pacing and timelines for runways and how to begin building a loyal community. They will be ready to consider genuine and relevant entrypoints and engagement strategies that stem from their core story.
In a group environment, but with a 1:1 focus on your story, Alison will offer a tailored set of case studies that have reached a variety of audiences to help inspire and inform your strategies, ranging from Warner Bros, Lionsgate, AMC, Showtime, Channel 4 and YouTube – all dependent on and responsive to your specific script or story.
Please note: This workshop is not a one-to-one meeting with a story consultant. As with all our surgery-style workshops, the projects will be discussed as a group with a roughly equal allocation of time per participant.
