MA Filmmaking alumnus Ben Caird returns to LFS for a screening of his BIFA-nominated film Halfway. A recently released convict (Quinton Aaron, The Blind Side) adjusts to his new life on probation as the only black man in a conservative Wisconsin farming town. Among prisoners released in 30 American states in 2005, roughly 68% were rearrested within 3 years and over 75% rearrested within 5 years. Halfway brings to light this serious systematic failure within the American prison system, where a lack of opportunity for those who have transgressed in their past seems to guarantee a future behind bars.
Following the film, join Ben and cinematographer and fellow alumnus Benjamin Thomas for a film analysis Q&A.
