Applicants should present at least one of the following:
- An Undergraduate / bachelor’s degree with Honours; or
- An equivalent (International) or Higher Qualification; or
- An equivalent professional qualification; or
- Substantial professional experience in film or a related area
As well as:
- Applicants need to provide a portfolio of work to demonstrate their strong commitment to the subject.
We believe filmmaking talent shows itself in many different ways. We welcome applications from a variety of academic and relevant professional backgrounds, on the merit that candidates can meet and exceed our minimum entry requirements.
Previous study in Filmmaking is not compulsory, and we welcome applicants to apply even if they have not trained in or made films before. We are interested in creative individuals who have a natural talent and passion for Film and storytelling.
What you’ll need for your application
All candidates must submit the following:

- Education certificates (degree-level qualifications only)
- Applicants whose first language is not English may also be required to provide proof of a Secure English Language Test (SELT).
- Two references (one referee should be a tutor or module or course leader from your 1st degree if you have graduated within the last 3 years)
- A short film you played a key role in (or extracts from your film work) up to 10 minutes in length. In addition, you may also submit a portfolio of photography/artwork, or a short film script (up to 5 pages long).

- Written Reflective Analysis of submitted film (up to 750 words), further details can be found below
Personal statement:
The personal statement should be no more than 400 words and include an account of why you think you are suitable for the course, how you meet the below selection criteria and how the course might support your aspirations and future plans.
Written reflective analysis
The written reflective analysis should be up to 750 words, and should reflect on your submitted film that you have recently completed. Your reflective analysis might include a description of how you developed the idea, or what your intention was for the project, how you researched and realised it, and an analysis of the outcome. Additionally you are invited to reflect on what you learnt and what you would do differently if you were to approach the same piece of work again.
English Language Proficiency
The language of teaching and assessment during the programme is entirely in English. All students must have a satisfactory knowledge of the English language due to the need to understand the intensive course lectures and the demands of group work.
In addition to the below requirements, students who require a student visa and their first language is not English, are required to provide proof of a Secure English Language Test (SELT).
A minimum requirement of IELTS level 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in any of the communicative skills (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking) or equivalent.
Selection Criteria
We are seeking candidates to demonstrate the following:
- A high degree of commitment to studying at London Film School and to its educational approach
- A high degree of commitment to a career in filmmaking
- Relevant artistic talent or originality and/or a grasp of the relevant skills
- Knowledge of film, film culture and the film industry
- Ability to initiate and complete complex projects
- Capacity for critical analysis
- Ability to work in a team
- Language skills (spoken, written, listening, communication skills)
