A Quick Guide for Applying to the MA Screenwriting Programme
Our MA Screenwriting programme has one intake a year; September and is offered as a full- time, one-year course. Please note, there is no part-time, online or distance learning mode of study for this programme.
We welcome applications from a wide variety of candidates who can demonstrate their passion for film and meet our minimum academic or professional entry requirements.
Applicants should have at least one of the following; A Bachelor’s degree with Honours (2:2 or above or international equivalent), a relevant professional qualification or substantial professional experience in film or a related area. In addition, all applicants must submit a CV/Resume, personal statement, an original 3-minute script for a short film and two references.
Applications are made online through the LFS website via our online application system. Click here to be taken to the application portal.
There one application period and deadlines for each September, listed here. Different deadlines apply for UK/EU/EEA and International (Non-EU) students which you can find here. If you are unsure of your applicant status, please contact our team for confirmation on firstname.lastname@example.org.
You will get an email acknowledging your application. Applications are then processed by our Admissions team and reviewed by Admissions and Academic staff for consideration for the next stage of the process. Successful applicants are invited for an interview. The interview would then determine any final offer of study. You will then be notified by email via our Admissions team on the final outcome of your application and interview. You can read about the application and review deadlines here.
Please note there is a non-refundable application fee of £50 upon submission of an application. Tuition Fees are set per academic year and may vary depending on the year of entry and applicant status. Current Tuition Fees can be viewed here. Please note that there is a £200 Visa Application Fee applies to all International (Non-EU) applicants. For the full tuition fees policy, please click here.
There are limited funding and scholarship opportunities available to UK/EU/EEA and International (Non-EU) students. UK and EU students are eligible for The Leverhulme Arts Scholarship, open for each September entry and external bursary programmes, including BAFTA. Students are also encouraged to source alternative funding sources via the Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding Guide. International students are encouraged to investigate funding opportunities within their own country prior to accepting an offer of study.
LFS is located in the heart of Covent Garden, central London, meaning student accommodation is not provided by the School. Students are encouraged to find external or private Student Accommodation options for their studies. LFS has an online community of students searching for flatmates through our invitation-only Facebook Group once you have accepted an offer, however alternative accommodation search options are also encouraged which we can help you with.
We welcome visitors to LFS throughout the year and offer several opportunities for you to visit our facilities. We run regular campus tours for our MA Filmmaking programme and host-specific open evening events for MA Screenwriting only. Forthcoming tours and events can be found on our event calendar and we kindly ask you to register in advance of any event.
