“As the titular star of Sebastian Lelio’s moving character study, Paulina García delivers a mesmerizing embodiment of midlife frustrations. She’s a lonely, divorced woman at a crossroads in her life — until she discovers a romantic businessman poised to help her get her groove back. But appearances can be deceiving, and as Gloria receives a brutal reality check, García imbues the character with a mixture of sorrow and yearning that sets the stage for the galvanizing finale. One of the greatest modern roles for an older woman, it continues to serve as an inspiration and a challenge for the global film industry to write more of them.” - EK, IndieWire “The 25 Best Female Movie Performances of the 21st Century”

The London Film School is excited to welcome award-winning screenwriter GONZALO MAZA for a special screening and Q&A of his 2013 feature film GLORIA, co-written and directed by Sebastián Lelio. Gonzalo is a recent graduate of the MA Screenwriting Programme (Cohort 12) and is currently working towards his PhD in Film by Practice at LFS.

GLORIA’s star, Paulina García, won the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival (2013) for her performance as a vivacious, middle-aged divorcée who finds what may be her last chance for love while grooving on the dance floor of the local singles club.

Lelio and Maza’s recent collaboration, festival favorite UNA MUJER FANTASTICA (A FANTASTIC WOMAN), garnered Gonzalo the coveted Silver Bear Award for Best Original Screenplay at Berlinale 2017. A FANTASTIC WOMAN screened at TIFF and London Film Festival, and is set to release worldwide in February 2018.

The evening will be moderated by Christina Morelli, and will highlight Gonzalo’s collaborative work in the film industry, as well as his upcoming directorial debut on his latest solo project. All staff, students and guests are welcome to join us in Cinema A, starting at 5:30pm.
