At London Film School, outreach is about making filmmaking accessible to everyone. Through long-standing partnerships with community organisations across London, the Outreach department uses creative storytelling as a tool for education, empowerment, and social connection. By bringing filmmaking beyond the classroom, the team creates opportunities for people from a wide range of backgrounds to develop new skills, build confidence, and share their experiences.
The department works with diverse communities, tailoring programmes to meet the needs and interests of each group. This includes after-school projects with Dragon Hall Community Centre, creative programmes with Coram’s Youth Group, and workshops with a SEND group at Somers Town Community Centre. Through these initiatives, participants are encouraged to explore filmmaking in an inclusive and supportive environment, developing both technical and personal skills along the way.
A key strength of the Outreach Department is its commitment to working with communities that are often underrepresented in the creative industries. Partnerships with Switchback support young adults rebuilding their lives after prison, while collaborations with the Da’aro Refugee and Asylum Seeker Group provide opportunities for people to tell stories, connect with others, and express their experiences through film.
The department also recognises the value of lifelong learning and intergenerational exchange. Projects with an over-60s women’s coffee morning at The Living Centre encourage creativity and social engagement, while intergenerational work developed through COP25 in partnership with the Francis Crick Institute brings together people of different ages to explore shared themes and experiences through collaborative storytelling.
Across all of its programmes, our Outreach team demonstrates the unique power of film to bring people together. Whether working with young people, older adults, refugees and asylum seekers, SEND participants, or individuals overcoming significant life challenges, the focus remains the same: creating spaces where every voice can be heard and every story can be valued.
Through creativity, collaboration, and community partnership, London Film School Outreach continues to show that filmmaking can be a powerful catalyst for confidence, connection, and positive social change.
