Welcoming Acland Burghley students to the London Film School

By Charlotte Bill

At London Film School, we are passionate about opening doors to creative education and helping young people discover the opportunities available within the screen industries. That is why we were delighted to welcome a group of T Level Media students from Acland Burghley School for a special visit to the School as part of their vocational studies.

The visit offered students a unique opportunity to experience life at one of the world’s leading film schools and gain first-hand insight into film education and production. Led by Outreach Manager, Charlotte Bill, the group enjoyed a tour of our facilities, learning more about the programmes we offer and the collaborative environment that supports emerging filmmakers from around the globe.

Students also took part in a practical camera composition and lighting workshop delivered by current MA Filmmaking student Melissa Myburgh. The session introduced key filmmaking techniques and gave students the chance to develop their skills through hands-on learning, while hearing directly from a current student about their experience of studying at the London Film School.

Adding to the excitement of the day, the visit coincided with a Term 4 production shooting in Studio B at Shelton Street. This provided an opportunity for the students to see a live film set in action, observing the teamwork, creativity and technical expertise involved in bringing a production to life.

Visits like these form an important part of London Film School’s Outreach programme. By welcoming local schools into our creative community, we hope to inspire the next generation of storytellers and filmmakers, helping young people to better understand the pathways into film education and creative careers. The impact of the visit was clear from the students’ enthusiastic feedback, with one pupil describing it as the “best school trip ever”.

We are proud to strengthen our connections with schools across the borough and to create opportunities for local students to engage with the world of filmmaking. We look forward to welcoming more young people to the School in the future and continuing to share our passion for film with the wider community.
