Idil Ergun, Turkey, Class of 2013
Reflections on the course:
"Udayan Prasad is an extraordinary teacher, with so much knowledge and experience. He helped us to understand and formulate the structure of a film and to appreciate the importance of the story. Thanks to him and all the other amazing tutors, the pieces of what seemed like a giant puzzle slowly fell into place.
Also, being able to work with a professional cast and crew while shooting our short films was very significant, as I later realised while working on films after the course. It taught me how to work as a team, and the right approach for communicating with actors.
Even though I was one of the few people on the programme who had no prior experience in the field, I never felt at a disadvantage. Evaluation and criticism of our short films was always encouraged to bring out the best in us, without killing our wind."
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT:
"Since the Summer School I have succeeded in pursuing a film career. I have worked on the production of two short films as an assistant director. I have also made videos for three different design brands, one of which was featured in an article in Le Monde's online site. Right now I’m working on a video for an internationally renowned Turkish fashion designer’s collection.
At the age of 30, I made a major career change and decided to become a director. I had no experience prior to the LFS Summer School, but it turned out to be the intense introduction and motivation I needed in order to leap into the field. LFS gave me the theoretical knowledge and mindset – and a good kick – to chase my dream."
