Koby Adom, who was born on the Ivory Coast and grew up in London, graduated from London Film School in 2016 with the critically acclaimed ‘House Girl’, set in Accra, Ghana, where his family comes from. When we last spoke to Koby at the end of 2017, he had just been selected for funding by Film London’s highly competitive London Calling Plus scheme to make his next short, ‘Haircut’. Now he’s floating on air after winning the London Calling Plus Award, selected by legendary Director of the final four ‘Harry Potter’ films and ‘Fantastic Beasts’, David Yates.
North America’s biggest short film festival, the Palm Springs International ShortFest, takes place this month, with three recent LFS graduation films selected and two alumni screening their work:
Creative Skillset's Trainee Finder has helped place trainees on UK Feature Films, Children's TV and High-End TV Drama across the UK. Some of the great work trainees have found through the initiative have included roles on ‘Wonder Woman’, ‘Jurassic World’, ‘God's Own Country’, ‘Breathe’ and ‘Lady Macbeth’, and on High-End TV Dramas such as ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Peaky Blinders’ and ‘Poldark’.
So far accepted onto the shortlist for the BAFTA Student Film Awards and admitted to the Palm Springs International Film Festival, we think it is safe to say that director and LFS graduate Franco Volpi’s graduation film is doing pretty well!
'Sol de Agosto (August Sun)' is a dramatic comedy, the film is a character study about a ‘son reconnecting with his ailing mother while mired in bureaucratic paperwork, heavy traffic, long queues and bad manners’.
Following his success, Franco sat down with us to talk about his time at LFS and how it has shaped his practice.
Marina Simoes 6th term graduation film "SOLO" has won the Audiences Award at the International Student Film and Video Festival of Beijing Film Academy, 1-7 November 2004.
Daniel Mitelpunkt from Israel, LFS Graduate 2003. His film "ALMOST" won the Grand Prix Europeen des Premiers Films, IMAGES 2004, Vevey, Switzerland.
Joel Perez Irizarry's Graduation film "SHEEPDOG" has won First Prize for Best Short Film in the Puerto Rico International Film Festival which took place in the Puerto Rico Museum of Art in August. An LFS graduate Avi Kleinburger has just shown his film "ATASH" at the London Film Festival after it had won the International Critics Prize at Cannes in June this year.
