AVANTIKA HARI WINS FIRST PRIZE IN THE 2006 COMMONWEALTH VISION AWARD

Avantika Hari's (C. 155)short film "Hat Day" which focuses on the events surrounding a themed day at a London preschool that saw each child assigned a Commonwealth nation hat, was honoured at an award ceremony at the Royal Commonwealth Society in London. She was given the award by Prince Edward, Earl of Essex. Her prize was £2,500.00 which she has put towards her graduation film.

The annual Commonwealth Vision Awards recognise excellence in the making of a short film on a designated Commonwealth theme. The prizes are presented at a prestigious media event, with the winning entries broadcast widely across the Commonwealth. This year's theme was "Respecting Differences, Promoting Understanding" My film "Hat Day" won first prize in this years competition, held on the 7th of December. The film focussed on children in a school who are being taught about the world and where they come from. The children in the film decide that for them identity does not matter.
