October was a busy month for Jorge Ojeda-Davila and his film, THE BURNING. Based around a girl with a rare burning skin disease caught up in a triangle of love, passion and jealousy, the LFS filmmaker’s short was screened at no less than four festivals.
Travelling across Mexico, THE BURNING appeared at the Feratum Film Festival, Morelia International Film Festival, Post Mortem International Horror and Bizarre Film Festival and Oaxaca Film Festival. Along the way, Ojeda-Davila’s film received a Special Jury Mention for Best International Short Film at the Feratum Film Festival and was a nominee for Best Michoacan Film at Morelia International Film Festival.
Asked about his inspiration for his fantasy drama, Ojeda-Davila admitted his guilty pleasure has always been vampire films. “Seeing how filmmakers can turn it into a serious matter, like Coppola with ‘BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA', or Jim Jarmusch with ‘ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE', I decided to give it a go. After the initial shock and disappointment of [the] end of term crits, which helped me a lot into re-shapping the film, it has been doing great at Festivals and opening doors.” Helping Ojeda-Davila to realise his ambition were Johan Askew as Producer, Qian Yuan as cinematographer and the ever-present Nia Fausset as both Production Designer and Sound Recordist.
