From Cannes to Hamptons; 'IN THE HILLS' marches on

IN THE HILLS, a short film from LFS graduate Hamid Ahmadi (Director, Writer and Editor), will screen in competition at this year’s Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF), having already won second prize at the Festival de Cannes in the Cinéfondation category.  IN THE HILLS tells the tale of a young immigrant, Shahram, who lives in the idyllic yet isolated countryside of the Cotswolds in England, chooses unconventional means in an attempt to seek human connection and integrate into the new society.

Should IN THE HILLS win the Narrative Short Film Competition at HIFF, which honours the fresh perspectives of up-and-coming filmmakers, it has a chance to qualify for consideration at the Academy Awards® for Best Live Action Short Film.

About the Hamptons International Film Festival

HIFF, now in its 24th year, was founded to celebrate Independent film and to introduce a unique and varied spectrum of international films. The festival is committed to exhibiting films that express fresh and differing global perspectives, with the hope that these programs will enlighten audiences and provide invaluable exposure for filmmakers.

Seven of the previous eight eventual winners of the Best Picture Oscar have been screened at HIFF, while HIFF-screened films during the same period amassed 230 total Oscar nominations.  This trend isn’t solely applicable to feature length films, hosting Oscar-qualifying festivals for short films focused specifically on early-career filmmakers.
