Vanished (Vanescer)

Friday 24th June 6.15 pm Cineworld

Set in Sao Paulo, VANESCER, is a short film about reconciliation. Overworked and unaccomplished TUCCO, is driving his elderly and stubborn mother, VERA, from a small town in the country to Sao Paulo City to view the newly released state documents that will finally reveal the truth behind the disappearance of his father in 1978, under Brazil’s Military dictatorship. The two don’t see many things eye to eye, including their feelings towards Tucco’s father. Vera has spent those past years proudly grieving her martyred husband. Tucco has grown up feeling abandoned by a man who put his country before his family, leaving his mum to struggle alone. Over the course of the journey, trapped with his mother in the car, Tucco learns to appreciate her perspective. When they arrive, and Tucco comes face to face with his father, will he also be able to forgive him?

The directional debut from Scottish director Graeme Maley, a gritty and poetic Nordic-noir about digital revenge set over three nights in the permanent winter darkness of Iceland’s capital.
The freezing city of Reykjavik provides a backdrop for a story of digital revenge and dirty secrets. When Ada shows Ingvar a ‘parent porn’ website where a local teen has hacked his mum’s webcam and been secretly filming her having a string of one night stands, Ingvar becomes fixated. He recognises the place where the original parent porn was filmed leading him to its teenage maker, a path ripe with danger, regrets and guilt. Ingvar’s life is changed forever.
