LFS films bring comedy to thriller and horror genre at EAT OUR SHORTS

On Friday 2nd December, 31 films from schools across the UK belonging to The National Association for Higher Education in the Moving Images (NAHEMI) will come together at the Regent Street Cinema as part of the EAT OUR SHORTS student film festival.  NAHEMI acts as a forum for debate on all matters pertaining to the teaching practice in the Moving Image in Higher Education, and this year two films from The London Film School have been chosen to be screened as part of this debate.

REVENGE OF A PEANUT

The term 1 brief at The London Film School is to shoot a 3 minute silent film. Current LFS student Samuel Tibi wanted to experiment with tension and film grammar within a simple set up. Drawing on a real life event, Tibi created REVENGE OF A PEANUT, in which Oliver steals some bread from his unwitting flatmate Anselm. As he puts the beautiful slice in the toaster, Anselm comes out of his room. At any moment, the toast can pop out, leaving Olivier in a somewhat sticky situation.

Tibi’s partners in crime on the project were Pawel Achtelik (Producer), Yutong Bai (Cinematographer), Maximilian Clarke (Camera Assistant) and Leanne O’Neill (Editor).

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

While the first EAT OUR SHORTS entry marks a filmmaker’s entrance into the LFS, the second is another’s farewell. Romantic comedy/horror HAPPY ANNIVERSARY is Mark Kuczewski’s graduation film and will be screened in the early afternoon. One year on from an unforgettable wedding day, Jeremy decides tonight is the night he’s going rekindle his love with his undead bride by giving her the first dance she never got on the day. Kuczewski stayed true to the 80's film genre, even managing to secure 80's classic (I JUST) DIED IN YOUR ARMS by the Cutting Crew as the film’s soundtrack.

For his graduation film, Kuczewski assembled an experienced team which included the likes of Julian Smith as both Producer and Editor, Thomas Rowe as Cinematographer, and Nia Fausset as Production Designer, whose work on the short film OUTSIDE was recognised at the Underwire Film Festival. Kuczewski himself worked recently on fellow filmmaker Koby Adom’s HOUSE GIRL in the role of Cinematographer.

EAT OUR SHORTS will be HAPPY ANNIVERSARY’s fourth selection after appearances at Fright Night Film Fest, the London Short Film Festival and the Industry BOOST Competition, where Kuczewski’s film made it to the final.
