LFS CELEBRATES NEW TALENT
The London Film School (LFS) has awarded an Honorary Associate to the legendary film editor and sound designer Walter Murch at the School’s annual graduation ceremony at the Barbican Centre today Monday 11 December 2017.
The ceremony was hosted by Acting Director and CEO, Gisli Snaer alongside Acting Vice Chair and Governor Professor Diana Green who presented the award to Walter Murch. With a career stretching back to 1969, Walter’s work includes Apocalypse Now, The Godfather I, II and III, America Graffiti, The Conversation and the English Patient and with three Academy Awards from nine nominations: six for picture editing and three for sound mixing, the school is especially delighted to have made this award.
Gisli Snaer, LFS Director commented:
‘I am delighted that we are able to honour one of the industry’s most respected film editors and sound designers with an Honorary Associate Award. Walter Murch is such an inspirational creative and his contributions to the School are invaluable, especially since he has been involved in some of the best films ever made, and in a role, that doesn’t always make headlines.”
Walter Murch said:
'I am delighted to receive an Honorary Associate Award from London Film School. It’s a school with a strong heritage and a world-wide reputation for nurturing talent behind the camera and in the editing suite - without whom great cinema wouldn’t be possible. The LFS attracts students from all over the world to collaborate and create original stories. I’m very proud to be a part of the school’s journey.”
The School celebrated a year of student achievements and awarded Associateships to 114 graduating students from the LFS MA Filmmaking, MA Screenwriting programme, and the MA in International Film Business programme. LFS filmmakers continue garnering international acclaim for their work and have been involved in key roles in a wide variety of film productions. The 67th Berlinale proved to be a strong year for London Film School students and alumni, bagging a total of four awards including the prestigious Silver Bear to screenwriting student Gonzalo Maza as co-writer of UNA MUJER FANTASTICA (A FANTASTIC WOMAN) and seven films by students and alumni featuring in the BFI 2017 London Film Festival programme. This year, LFS student and alumni films continue to screen and win awards most weekends, with over 300 screenings and 32awards globally. Most recently, London Calling’s 2017 team includes two recent graduates from our MA Screenwriting and MA Filmmaking programmes.
