Mikel Gurrea

About

Mikel was born in Donostia-San Sebastian and moved to Barcelona to graduate with a BA Audiovisual Communications. He worked as an AD and post-production coordinator for commercials at the production company AGOSTO for two years. He has written and directed award-winning short films and documentaries; his film Red in the Water won 4 awards and was selected at over 30 film festivals worldwide.

Mikel was awarded with the la Caixa Fellowship award to study at the LFS. During his studies, Mikel wrote and directed the documentary Txoria (The Bird) in collaboration with the Royal Ballet, which has been sold to be broadcasted by EITB. He also wrote Automatic Flesh, with choreography by the Rambert Dance Company, which premiered at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. He was commissioned to write and direct the commercial Chessmates, nominated at the PRIX Europa Broadcasting Festival.

He is graduating from the LFS as a writer/director with the short film Foxes.
