Christopher Lilley was born and raised just outside a small fishing town on the north-east coast of Scotland, where he was raised on a cocktail of fish and chips, freezing cold walks in the countryside, and regular trips to the cinema. He studied French and Spanish at the University of Edinburgh and, finding that spending most of his life in rural Scotland had left him lacking in industry opportunities and contacts, subsequently moved to London to pursue his lifelong need to be a filmmaker.
