About
Pedro Mendes is a Brazilian transdisciplinary artist currently based in Madrid. His practice spans across experimental cinema, video art, photography, and performance, with his works being exhibited in galleries, institutions, and alternative spaces in Brazil.
At the core of his artistic practice is the exploration of the aesthetic and narrative possibilities of repurposed footage, including archival footage, home videos, and his own unfinished projects. Through his experiments with various mediums, Pedro explores the boundaries between reality and fiction by using self-referentiality as a tool to delve into themes of identity, the body, and memory.

After Myself
After Myself is an experimental essay film that explores universal themes such as identity, nostalgia and grief. The film blends two distinct visual and narrative languages: The first consists of personal home videos, in which the imperfect nature of memories contrasts with the objective recordings. The second part features oneiric scenes where the filmmaker inhabits a liminal space and interacts with symbolic objects representing five deceased relatives - two grandfathers, two grandmothers and an aunt. The film's non-linear narrative continuously juxtaposes these different languages, as the filmmaker explores personal thoughts and emotions through a contemplative voice-over narration.
