Directing actors is an essential skill if you want to make your own short films.  As a director, how do you convey your ideas and work with actors to achieve your vision?

This course will take you through the fundamental techniques for working with actors and teach you how to communicate and collaborate more successfully.

During five intensive workshop sessions you gain a better understanding of the actor/director relationship by learning:

  • the importance of understanding the story and the character’s objectives
  • techniques for stimulating an actor’s imagination and bringing a character to life
  • how to give notes and the importance of clarity in communication
  • how to build trust in the actor/director relationship
  • the contents of an actor’s ‘toolbox’ and how they can be utilised

You will direct and be directed by your fellow students, gaining first-hand experience and feedback on your work.  For your final project you will get the opportunity to work with professional actors.
