Rebecca Marshall selected as part of the Guiding Lights 2014

LFS alumni

Rebecca Marshall has been co-founding Director of The Electric Palace Cinema, a 52 seat independent venue in Hastings, since 2002. Between 2001 - 2009 she was co-founder and Curator of Shot by the Sea, Hastings’ annual Festival of Film and Moving Image. As a filmmaker, her working process includes the use and reuse of her personal film archive, an expanding reservoir of vibrant moments from everyday life. In September 2013 she began a practice-based PhD looking at self-portrait in film with Exeter University and The London Film School, where she also completed an MA Filmmaking, graduating in 2011. She is based in London and Hastings.




The successful mentees will follow in the footsteps of an impressive list of 100 Guiding Lights alumni which includes 2013 BAFTA Best Debut nominee Tina Gharavi(I AM NASRINE), Laura Hastings-Smith, producer of Steve McQueen's HUNGER, Sundance and Berlin 2013 selected filmmaker Andy Heathcote(THE MOO MAN) and award-winning cinematographer Urszula Pontikos (WEEKEND, LILTING). Between them, previous mentees have produced over 35 features and been involved in numerous collaborations with other Guiding Lights participants.




Guiding Lights is run by Lighthouseand supported by Creative Skillset’s Film Skills Fund, which is funded by the BFI with National Lottery funds, through the Skills Investment Fund (SIF).
