APRIL | LFS STUDENT FILMS AND ALUMNI HIGHLIGHTS

Alumni Highlights

Once again, our alumni and students have impressed us with their remarkable achievements in the past month. We’re incredibly proud to be connected with all the brilliant and hardworking talent who have studied with us.

MA Screenwriting graduate, Beru Tessema saw his play House of Ife premiere at Bush Theatre as part of the theatre’s 50th birthday season. The drama about an Ethiopian-British family is open until 11th June so there’s still time to get tickets.

This month we were delighted to see that Carajita, a feature written by MA Screenwriting graduate, Ulla Prida has been selected for Tribeca Film Festival. We’re looking forward to the screenings in June.

It was great to see the work of MA Filmmaking alumnus Koby Adom on screen again. In April the second series of BBC’s Nought’s + Crosses premiered on BBC1 with all four episodes on the series directed by Koby and available for streaming from BBC iPlayer. Koby directed three episodes in series one as well so it’s brilliant to see his hard work paying off.

Towards the end of the month, we were thrilled that Filmmaking alumnus Salil Fernandez, was recognised at the Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival for his documentary, The Tails of Boo-Boo & Cuddly Poo. The documentary follows the plight of stray animals in India with a focus on cruelty, abandonment, rescue, and love. Salil hopes to raise awareness, educate, and inspire the audience on a subject that has been driven by a labour of love. The project has also won the Best Film of the Festival award at the Kalakari Film Festival 2022 and was nominated at the Jaipur International Film Festival 2022.
