About
Haotong Xue (Vera), a young writer/ director/ producer from China, graduated from London Film School in 2022. In the past years, she directed five short films, and participated in many shorts as producer, cinematographer, and sound recordist. She discovered her skills in many areas in filmmaking, and then found the most charming genre – Comedy. Although she decided to develop her career in China, she could never forget the most wonderful time in her life — the study experience in LFS. She always makes a joke about introducing herself, which is “the protector of the seven dials”.

On a Gentle Night
The story came up with a little boy around 9-10 year-old, whose father invited his gay lover back home dinner, accidentally finding this secret – his father falling in love with another man, and trying to understand by his own. Focusing on the ‘silent moment’ among this family, I try to portrait a character to look at this scene from a distance, without intervening, without understanding, and without judgment. And the story turns out to be dealing with the embarrassed condition and complicated emotions between ‘father’ and ‘son’.
