One Thousand and One Teardrops has been officially selected for the international student competition category at the 44th Kyiv International Film Festival, Molodist.
Molodist Filmfestis one of the most important specialised film events in Eastern Europe and a BAFTA recognised film festival.
One Thousand and One Teardrops is a short, animated docu-drama about women's dress codes in Iran. The film was made at the London Film School. A history of fashion and clothing codes in Iran, narrated by a magical teardrop keeper for a little girl who is faced with the dilemma of whether to reject or embrace the ugly uniform on her first day of school.
This is how Open City Docs presented the film on their website:
“Mixing archive material and animation in a style reminiscent of Terry Gilliam's animations for Monty Python, mixed with Persian patterns and elegance, this is a feast for the eyes.”
Written and directed by Fateme Ahmadi and co-produced by Mi Young Yun, both recent LFS graduates, the film stars Shappi Khorsandi as the Teardrop Keeper. The film's crew also includes two other LFS graduates as sound recordists: Connla Lyons and Nicola Sersale.

At the Kyiv International Film Festival, the film will be competing with other pictures by talented directors from around the world for the Grand Prix for the Best Competition Film (a prize of 10,000 USD and statuette), Best Film in Category and other Molodist festival prizes.
