LFS Graduate Film Highlights

We are thrilled to share the news that Eng Teck Ng (MAF 192) has won the British Society of Cinematographers Student Short Film Award for the graduation film Caravan. Huge congrats to the team; Dir: William Anderson, AD: Chelsey A’Desky, Editor: Nailah Robinson, Sound Zhizi Hao, Rafael Manuel and Winnie Kengpol, Gaffer: Rory Baynham and Spark: Leslie Hsien. 
 
Locarno FF Swiss silver Pardino winner after a room will have its American Premiere at the Montreal Festival du Nouveau Cinema and will be screened at Message to Man IFF (Russia) in November where it won the Centaur Award for Best Debut. Dir-Writer-Editor: Naomi; Pacifique, Sound Design: Pablo Carreras, Producer: Rafael Manuel.  

More exciting cinematography news is that we have two films premiering at Camerimage in November. Lontano; Dir: Andrea Banfi; Prod: Alissa Autschbach; DoP: Sherry El Moumni Berdai. In competition and Glorious Revolution: Dir, Editor, Co-Producer and Co-Writer Mariia Novikova, DoP: Pablo Carreras, and graduates, Prod: Paisley Valentine; AD: Anastasia Savinova. 
 
Odh Gohri had its Deutschland Premiere at 36th Unabhaengiges FilmFest Osnabrück in October and screened at UN Women USA Gulf Coast Chapter ‘Through Women’s Eye Film Festival’ and Moscow Shorts earlier this year. Writer-Dir: Rochna Kumar, AD: Sam McFarland.


 
The Third Solar Term will be screening in November at  Beijing Queer Film Festival and at Poitiers Film Fest (France). Dir-Writer-Editor: Zhanfei Song, Prod: Liang, Naixin, DoP: Liu, Tong. 
 
School Ties US premiere in November at Chicago International Children's Festival. Writer-Director: Albert, Oscar; Prod: Christophersen, Daniel; DoP: Slaiman, Fyras, Assist, Dir: Wills, Maya; Editor: Abou-Jaoude, Stephany. 

Watermelon and Mint screened at the London Indie Film Festival  winning Best Cinematographer. Dir: Zhang, Hangshuo; Prod: Dong, Lingge; DoP: Fang, Yuanye; Prod. Desig: Su, Aoya; Prod: Xue, Haotong; Editor: Ding, Xiao. 
 
The Fantastical Millepede is going to be part of Sci-Fi London FF, Writer-Dir: Daniel Christophersen, Editor: John Powell,  DoP: Fyras Slaiman, Prod: Maya Wills 
 
We Choose To Go continues a great run, screening at Trieste Science + Fiction Festival at the end of October and won Best British Sci-Fi award at Discover FF! Writer-Dir: Marlene Rios, DoP: Hsien Niu, Prod Design: Emily Marquet, Art Dir: Tim Archibald. 

Filipiñana will be screening once again at the Tabakalera for Donostia Zinemaldia - Festival de San Sebastián's 20th year celebration of Nest. Writer-Dir-Editor: Rafael Manuel, Prod: Naomi Pacifique, DoP: Xenia Patrica

Alumni Highlights

Congratulations to LFS alumna Charlotte Colbert, longlisted for Best Debut Director and Best Debut Screenwriter, and Colum Eastwood, also longlisted for Best Debut Screenwriter for the 2021 British Independent Film Awards. 

Koby Adom’s DBK Studios has partnered with Sky Studios for a short film series titled Unearthed Narratives, supporting new work by emerging talent including LFS graduate Teniola King.

Theo James Krekis and Rafael Manuel were both selected for this year’s NETWORK@LFF, BFI NETWORK’s annual flagship professional development programme at the BFI London Film Festival. 
 
Rafael Manuel will also take part in Berlinale Talents Tokyo and has been named as one of the 100 Prince Claus Fund seed awardees. 
 
Alumnus Jess Carfield produced and edited new documentary Man in the Field: The Life and Art of Jim Denevan, now available in select locations and on digital in the US.  

John Walsh’s new book Escape from New York: The Official Story of the Film will be published in the UK on November 22nd. Over forty years after the release of the iconic hit, Escape from New York: The Official Story of the Film delves into the archives to showcase the creation of the movie. 

Tailor, directed by Sonia Liza Kenterman and co-written by Kenterman and Tracy Sunderland, took home awards for Best Screenplay, Best Music and Best Actor at the Festival de Cine Mostra de Valencia. 
 
Celine Cotran’s latest documentary short film The Edge of Home (prod. Oli Sunley, DoP. Mark Kuczewski, ed. Kuczewski and Razvan Barseti) will screen at the Aesthetica Short Film Festival next month.  

Mireia Graell’s latest project as producer, The Fury, will be presented at the Guadalajara Film Festival’s Co-Production Meetings this year.
