There are more ways than ever before to stay engaged with LFS, and as the end of 2019 approaches, we are delighted to announce a series of events taking place on campus across the Autumn Term, including our LFS CONNECTS series, MA Screenwriting Open Evening and MA Filmmaking Campus Tours.
Designed to connect LFS to its surrounding community and celebrate our extensive alumni and partnership achievements, our CONNECTS series focuses on different aspects of filmmaking through a diverse range of exclusive screenings, industry-led panels, guest Q&As and Masterclasses.
We’re delighted to announce the next set of connects events:
26 September – 18:00 to 21:00 Straight 8 Competition at LFS
The challenge? Shoot a short film on one cartridge of super 8mm cine film with no editing, no re-takes, no grade, no post-production. Visuals are completed in-camera, shooting in story order, and editing only with each pull of the camera’s trigger - every shot taken becomes the film, while a separate soundtrack is submitted. The first time you see the finished product will be alongside one of straight 8’s packed premiere audiences, such as the Cannes Film Festival. At this LFS CONNECTS // INDUSTRY event, from 6-9pm on 25 September in Cinema A, not only will 2018's 'Cannes 8' shortlist be screened, but our panel will discuss the method of this enticing challenge with a focus on what judges will be looking for. Ed Sayers, Founder of straight 8, will be joined by colleagues and Theo Krekis, LFS alumna (MAS 10), whose film MEMOIRS OF A GEEZA features in the evening's screening and was recently selected for this year's London Film Festival.

22 October – 18:30 to 21:00 Screening of Halfway and Q&A with alumni Ben Caird and Benjamin Thomas
Organised by Papaya Films, a production company with offices in Warsaw, London and New York, the competition helps young, aspiring filmmakers break into the world of commercial film. The competition has benefited in the past from global brand support, such as McDonald's, Coca-Cola, Durex and H&M. Young filmmakers created 96 films, and submitted over 5000 treatments. Recent winners got recognition from the most renowned Award shows, such as SHOTS Awards and Cannes Lions. This LFS CONNECTS // INDUSTRY event features a showcase of previous entries to the competition and a guide on how to seize the opportunity presented by this competition. The showcase will be hosted by executive producer Kacper Sawicki, with a guest appearance from a special speaker.
