Some Winter Cheer at The London Film School...

A record-breaking 17 films directed by LFS graduates are currently showing at the London Short Film Festival, 11 of them films made at the school. LFS filmmakers are also involved in many other roles including cinematography, editing and producing. Read about them here.

Congratulation to LFS Chairman and alumnus Mike Leigh, whose MR TURNER has received 4 Oscar nominations, 4 BAFTA nominations and 7 London Critics Circle Film Awards. Cannes winner THE SALT OF THE EARTH, co-directed by LFS graduate Juliano Ribeiro Salgado with Wim Wenders, has an Oscar nomination for Best Documentary.

Congratulations also to MA Filmmaking graduates Liam Creighton and Rafal Kapelinski and LFS Fast Forward producer Fiona Black, who have been selected for Film London's Microwave project. More details here.

We were delighted to welcome Richard Linklater, Ralph Fiennes and Kate Kinninmont to our Annual Show in December, where they became LFS Honorary Associates and celebrated with our graduating students. Academic Administrative Coordinator to support the efficient delivery of two LFS graduate programmes: MA International Film Business and MA Screenwriting.
You'll need to be quick as deadline is tomorrow 16th January!

Film Archive and Festivals Manager to run the day-to-day functions of its film library. Experience of working in post production is important, as well as a good knowledge of film delivery formats, digital film management, working knowledge of film festivals and an understanding of copyright clearance and IP in audio visual works. Deadline Friday 23rd January

MA Filmmaking - Next Entry May 2015

Train in all departments, in a working studio, with students from over 30 countries on our flagship programme. More info.

Five Creative Skillset bursaries, covering over 75% of fees, are available for UK qualifying students starting in May 2015. They address our key goal of ensuring that emerging talent in the UK has access to the school’s unique learning programme. LFS aims to encourage greater diversity in the screen industries and particularly welcomes applications from under-represented groups.
To be considered for a bursary students must submit an application by 27th February. More details

MA International Film Business - Sep 2015 

Our unique new MA launched this year. It unites LFS with the University of Exeter’s Film Department and Business School and includes a field trip to the Berlin Film Festival. MAIFB explores the entire film business, embracing independent film production, financing, sales, distribution and marketing, alongside programming, exhibition and digital strategies for the future. LFS Workshops 

All writers get stuck from time to time. If you’ve got a script in distress, our Kate Leys Story Surgery is here to rescue your story and offer clear, focused feedback to get your project back on track (Fri 27 Feb)  .

Also next month, sound designer and editor Gustavo Costantini returns to LFS to offer two weekends of back-to-back expertise. First up is his popular Music Strategies in Narrative Filmmaking (14 & 15 Feb) followed by a new workshop, The Editor At Work: Thematic Subtexts, Dramatic Patterns and Rhythms (21 & 22 Feb).

Exclusive to this new workshop is original material from Academy Award-winning editor and sound designer Walter Murch (APOCALYPSE NOW, pictured above). Open to writers, directors and producers as well as editors, composers and sound designers – these relaxed, informal weekends are also a great way to meet others working in your field.
