Ann Hui's THE GOLDEN ERA to premiere as the closing film of the 71st Venice Film Festival


Screening out of competition, THE GOLDEN ERA is the second film of Hui's to screen at Venice Film Festival. A SIMPLE LIFE competed at the 2011 Festival, collecting four awards in total. THE GOLDEN ERA recounts the life of writer Xiao Hong, one of the most controversial Chinese female writers of the early twentieth century.
Running from 27 August to 6 September, Hui is also to chair the International Jury of Orrizonti, composed of seven other leading personalities in film and culture from different countries. The Jury is responsible for awarding Best Film, Best Director, Special Jury Prize, Innovative Contribution and Best Short Film within the section, focusing on new trends, debut films and independent features.
Hui is also the first ever female recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Honour at the Asian Film Awards and is one of the most prominent figures of Hong Kong's New Wave movement.
